Lunar Rover Research Project

For the past year I've had the opportunity to work with Sean Kalaycioglu, an Aerospace Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, and Haipeng Xie, an adjunct professor at The University of Toronto, on a government-sanctioned research paper. The goal of this project was to design and prototype moon rovers that could work together to remotely conduct construction and reconnaissance projects on the moon.

Through working on this project, I have learned to:

  • Conduct stress-strain analysis to streamline design efficiency

  • Use MATLAB and Simulink to develop algorithms and simulations

  • Pair MATLAB algorithms with Unity to hyper-realistically simulate the moon's environment

As a research assistant, I was in charge of designing the chassis structure, designing the entirety of the rover body including the rocker-buggy transmission system.

I also played a role in designing the 6-degree of freedom robotic arm on the robot, programming it to move using a global co-ordinate frame, forward kinematic, and inverse kinematic Simulink programs.
